The Wildwoods are located on a barrier island known as “Five Mile Island” and are comprised of five municipalities: the City of Wildwood, North Wildwood, West Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and Diamond Beach. The Wildwoods are considered the “Doo Wop Capital of the World” because, during the 1950s, over 200 motels were built to attract vacationers. Today, much of that mid-century architecture remains, along with a Doo Wop Museum. Wildwood beaches are the widest and most expansive on the Atlantic coast, with beach taxis that are available to transport beachgoers to the waterfront.
